'Tutankhamen'

Glenda Mac Naughton (2001)

This hand-crafted beaded neckpiece used a pattern by Suzanne Cooper for the basic design. Glenda has embellished this design using ancient turquoise beads from Nepal and placed the beaded panel on a seed bead tubular rope.

The burial mask of King Tutankhamun (ruled approx. 1332-1322 BC) is among the best-known artefacts of 'Ancient Egypt'. Images in the young King's tomb (found in 1922) influenced Art Deco designers in the 1920s and 1930s and continue to fascinate us. Glenda's woven bead panel and rope use materials and colours common in Egyptian art - turquoise, lapis lazuli (blue), carnelian (red) and, of course gold.
