| 'PearlFisher'
Glenda Mac Naughton (2005)
A unique, handcrafted item of art jewellery, Pearlfisher features five diamond-shaped pieces of mother-of-pearl. Each piece sits in a woven glass bead setting in matching tones of pearl, gold and copper, from which hangs a small, freshwater pearl. Strands of the same glass beads form the two side-straps of the necklace and the fringe at its lower end. A cluster of iridescent lime-green glass beads in each Pearlfisher side-strap complements two feature beads in green and gold dichroic glass.
A celebration of the rich diversity of the Pacific, Pearlfisher is inspired partly by Bizet's opera, 'The Pearlfishers' and - like Bizet's opera - features a stunning duet. In Pearlfisher, mother-of-pearl from the Philippine Islands and freshwater pearls from China harmonize with iridescent and dichroic glass beads from Japan and the United States in a shimmering cascade of shapes, colours and textures.
