In medieval Europe, a baron's wife was called the 'chatelaine' (the lady of the castle) and her badge of office was a cluster of storeroom keys hanging from an ornamental hook at her waist. In time, 'chatelaine' referred to the hook itself, then to the whole assemblage; and by the nineteenth century, women wore 'chatelaine bags'. Chatelaine revives that tradition, emphasising looks over function. A tiny woven bag hangs from a complex rope of strung and woven beads in glistening aqua and iridescent purple and is fringed with seed and feature beads in the same colours.
